Our Mission

Our bodies
were never
the problem.

Beyond the Scale exists to challenge weight stigma, body-based discrimination and harmful cultural messages that teach people their size determines their health, character or worth.

You cannot tell someone's health, habits, intelligence, discipline or story by looking at their body.

Mission 01

End size
discrimination.

Body size should never determine whether someone is respected, believed, employed, educated, supported or taken seriously.

We want a future where size-based prejudice is recognised, challenged and taken seriously wherever it appears.

Mission 02

Prevent
body shame.

Harmful messages about weight can shape how young people think about food, their bodies and themselves.

Through education, we challenge body-based bullying, appearance pressure and the idea that worth must be earned by becoming smaller.

Mission 03

Change the
conversation.

Health is complex. Bodies are diverse. Eating disorders do not have one appearance.

We want conversations about bodies, food and wellbeing to become more compassionate, evidence-informed and less driven by shame.

Prevention matters

You cannot
see an
eating disorder.

Eating disorders are complex illnesses and they can affect people in bodies of every size.

Beyond the Scale focuses on early education and prevention: challenging body shame, weight stigma and harmful social messages before they become deeply embedded.

We cannot meaningfully challenge disordered eating while teaching people that becoming fat is something to fear.

Change beyond the classroom

Body size should not cost you opportunities.

Beyond the Scale campaigns against size-based discrimination in education, healthcare, employment and everyday life.

We support stronger recognition and protection for people experiencing discrimination because of their body size.

Dignity should not have a dress size.

How we create change
